The middle school counselors (one at each grade level) provide many resources to the school community.

  • They orient new students and their parents to SAS throughout the year as needed, as well as providing follow-up during the transition period once they have been enrolled. They also facilitate the exiting process when students leave SAS.

  • They assist the students in their selection of courses and arrange and adjust student class schedules as needed throughout the year.

  • They process referrals from teachers and parents and arrange and conduct student study meetings.

  • They conduct and follow up on academic, social and emotional concerns about students expressed by the students themselves, other students, teachers, administrators and parents.

  • They are familiar with the outside psychological resources in the community and serve as a resource to families.

  • They are a resource for the Home Base advisor and provide lessons as needed in order to reach the Home Base objectives.

  • At the end of each year, they provide assistance to students entering the middle school from 5th grade and those leaving the middle school to enter high school.

  • They are a resource to the community, providing information on a wide-range of issues, such as, Third Culture Kids, the Emotions Involved in Moving, How to Interpret Standardized Test Scores, Parenting, Appreciating Diversity, Social Skills, Crisis Intervention, Grieving, and Understanding Self.
