Physical education is a very important part of the instructional program and is required for all middle school students.  A mandatory yearlong alternating day program provides students with an authentic fitness opportunity.  The only exceptions of non-participation are:

  1. A permanent disability prohibiting any participation – a physician’s statement is required.
  2. Excuse for one class period due to illness – a parent’s written statement is required.
  3. Excuse for two or more class periods due to illness or injury - a physician’s statement is required stating length of time excused.

A student may be placed in an alternate program if he/she is excused from P.E. for an extended period of time.

Students participating in P.E. are required to dress in the P.E. uniform.

Non-participation four times in one quarter may result in a failing grade in P.E./Swimming.

Students participating in the swimming program are required to shower before and after entering the pool.  According to good health standards, students are encouraged to shower after participating in physical activities.  Showers may be required during certain P.E. units at the discretion of the P.E. teacher.
